It was a go!!!
Up early to check on the question, go or no go??? If the the Schilthorn is enclosed in clouds the views will be obscured and there will not be a group tour...Hooray! It's reasonably clear, Fabian and Carlos will lead and we'll go, hanging over the granite craigs from a wire in our swinging gondola...Every direction there are spectacular views of ice carved granite ridges, rows of ranges as far as can been seen, snow fields, and clouds dancing about the peaks...Working on a mountain high, accompanying us were potential hang glider pilots who hiked on to check flight conditions for a launch...Our third time and second Rick Steves tour to the Mürren area...Each visit highlights a new experience and brings a refresher...A first to view the Alps from this unique stimulating visual vantage point...
The gondola goes in and out of the clouds heading back to Mürren...The gondola view is not a familar experience for our past mountain experiences in the North American West, Sierra, Rockies, Canadian Rockies or Alaska, where the hiking boot was the method of climbing transportation...
Most of us hiked with Fabian to a great viewing area for a picnic lunch..Soaring hang gliders, steep canyons, glaciers cutting and sliding on the cliffs, with white gray and black clouds flitting about the peaks and high canyons across the Laterbrunnen Valley...Clean cool air to breath...
Dinner on our own and almost all of us ended up in the same cliffside resturant for a good meal and pleasant time together...
